Minutes of ns-3 Steering Committee telecon October 10, 2014 Attendees: Nicola Baldo, Walid Dabbous, Tom Henderson, Felipe Perrone, Manuel Ricardo, George Riley 1) WNS3 co-chair search Peter Barnes has agreed to serve as co-chair of WNS3. The meeting agreed on additional candidates who could be approached for the co-chair position. 2) WNS3 week selection The results of the poll that was sent to the steering committee and a list of last year's attendees suggested that the weeks of May 11, May 18, and June 1 are the best candidates. The telecon agreed to ask the co-chairs (once selected) about their preference. 3) WNS3 proceedings chair search Felipe Perrone wrote up a job description for this position. Since there were no obvious candidates raised, we agreed to solicit volunteers for this position at a future date. Felipe received a suggestion to publish not only in ACM but also the Thomson Reuters Web of Science (WoS). We agreed to pursue this in addition to ACM. 4) WNS3 schedule The meeting agreed to plan for the five-day schedule of events (training for two days, single-day workshop, and then consortium/developer meetings for two days). 5) Executive Director for 2015 Tom Henderson was asked to serve in this role for another year, and he accepted. The meeting agreed to look for other candidates in subsequent years. 6) Infrastructure Tom Henderson summarized recent problems with the web and code servers, and described an action plan for avoiding future problems. The participants supported the idea of trying to resolve this with university support rather than paying for hosting. 7) Training Tom Henderson is considering to hold a 2-3 day ns-3 training this winter (February timeframe) on the U.S. east coast, Wash. DC area. He would need to use consortium funds to pay for expenses. We would want to ensure that some attendance was likely before committing to expenses. The meeting supported this idea, and Tom said he would begin to pursue this. 8) Expenses The telecon approved the use of consortium budget for purchasing VMware software, memory, and hard drives for UW server infrastructure.
