ns-3 presently doesn't include any support for simulation of optical networks in the official distiribution, however there are modules under development. This page tracks info about modules for ns-3 developed in field of optics, including WDM and PON.
Optical Transport Network: Prototype WDM Network Simulator (PWNS)
Project name
Project name is a parody on OWns[1], a project with similar goals implemented in ns-2.
Project scope
The goal of PWNS project is to implement models for WDM optical network components, including:
- optical cable, optical fiber, wavelength channel,
- multiplexer and demultiplexer, add-drop multiplexor,
- wavelength converter, wavelength selective switch, arrayed waveguide grating,
- optical cross connect (MEMS).
Prototype from June 2012 is described in [2]; more detailed description will be posted here as soon as possible.
